Cockroach Pest Control Services

Cockroaches are a common pest infestation in homes and businesses. They are notoriously fast and difficult to kill. Cockroaches are known to spread a number of diseases through bacteria and pathogens they carry on their bodies. They have even been known to cause allergic reactions. Here are some common species of cockroach that may be infesting your property.

Oriental Cockroach

Oriental Cockroaches have a unique look. They are typically dark brown or black and are shiny in appearance. They can grow to be a little over 1 inch long. While males have wings that cover nearly all of their body, the female oriental cockroach does not have any wings. These pests primarily live outdoors in dark, damp areas such as under mulch and stones or in trash cans or sewers. However, if their nesting places become too dry or uninhabitable, they may move into your home or property. You may see or hear them moving around within walls, drains, crawl spaces or basements.

If you have a cockroach infestation, you may notice their eggs or feces inside your property or you may notice a musty odor. The odor is most likely to occur if you have a large infestation.

American Cockroach

American Cockroaches have more reddish appearance than Oriental Cockroaches and have a pale figure 8 marking on the back of their heads. They have an oval shape with wings and can grow to be about one and a half inches long. These pests prefer warm, humid areas and are most often seen in homes and businesses when the temperature is over 70 degrees. Outdoors, they tend to live in flowerbeds, under mulch, and under landscaping ties. However, when American Cockroaches infest your property, they often inhabit dark, humid areas such as basements, laundry rooms, and food storage areas.

If you notice droppings around your home or business or smell a musty odor, you may have a cockroach infestation. These droppings and the roaches themselves can spread infections or even cause allergic reactions.

German Cockroach

The German Cockroach is typically light brown in color with two dark stripes down the back. They are generally only about ½ inches long. These pests are drawn to warm, humid areas and may nest inside homes, restaurants, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and commercial buildings. German Cockroaches are attracted to crumbs and food sources in a building as well as soap, glue and toothpaste. If you notice droppings that look like ground pepper in your drawers, cabinets, or behind appliances, you may have an infestation. These are the most common cockroach species in Texas are known to spread pathogens and even trigger allergic reactions in children and adults.
